Welcome! This is the website of Silver Branch Games, a small independent publisher of tabletop roleplaying games.
Website update
31/3/09 - Apologies if you had any trouble finding
the site in the last day or so. I've just moved
it to a new host. Hopefully there won't be too many
glitches.
Jaws of the Six Serpents released
22/3/09
- The newest product from Silver Branch Games takes
the fan-favourite PDQ system into the realms of
sword-and-sorcery and the darker sides of fantasy.
The book contains:
- The PDQ core rules
- Additional rules for these genres of fantasy
- Setting outline for the land of the Six Serpents
- Notes on adapting for different settings
It's written and designed by Tim Gray, author of Questers of the Middle Realms and Legends Walk - Truth & Justice Edition.
Jaws is 132 pages long in 6x9in format. It's available in PDF from Indie Press Revolution, RPGNow and DriveThruRPG, and in print from IPR and Lulu.

Whistlestop Guide to Herbs
8/11/08 - Have just
released this new mini-product. It's a rapid 18-page tour of real European plants that are noteworthy for their
real or claimed medicinal, practical or magical properties, from agrimony to
yarrow.
There's almost 50 plants in there, most with line drawings. It's non-game-specific,
intended for use as inspiration and reference. Check
out a preview.
Available
now for $2.95 at Your
Games Now and RPGNow.
Update
6/8/08
-Yes, I'm still here! Gaming stuff has been taking
a back seat to other things. The main development
to report is that the draft of Jaws of the Six Serpents
is currently being picked over by a select group
of steely-thewed feedback folk. Comments so far
have been encouraging, so I hope to get it out fairly
soon.
(Jaws is a sword-and-sorcery style fantasy
game using the PDQ system, aiming to be self-contained
in a small volume. It has the PDQ rules adapted
for worlds towards the pulpy/gritty
end of fantasy, and a setting outline for the world
of the Six Serpents. It's in 6x9in format, and looking
like 120 pages.)
After that, my next main project will be the
long overdue Albion - Reforged
Edition. (Albion is my Celtic-themed
fantasy game. The Player's Book was released in
PDF some time ago, but there's other important material
to reveal and a lot of improvements in presentation
that I can now make.) There might be other small
projects along the way, but I've nothing firm in
mind right now.
Truth & Justice: More Power
24/3/08 - I've just released a short supplement to Truth & Justice, the
PDQ superhero game from Atomic Sock Monkey Press. Entitled More Power,
it's a resource for creating powers in any T&J game, building on my
experience of converting my Legends Walk setting.
- A few short
optional rules ideas.
- Mini-articles about the versatility of Super Scale
and Vulnerabilities, size levels and themed powers.
- Over 40 power write-ups -
some familiar, some widely applicable and some just a little bit
quirky.
It's a 24-page PDF, price $3.95, available from Your Games Now,
RPGNow and DriveThru and arriving shortly at Indie Press Revolution.
The Arsenal of Heaven
23/3/08 - I'm pleased to announce that this is
now out! When it started it was going to be a quick
and simple project: well, we all know what happens
to those.
It's
a new entry in the NUGGETS series, based around
the same very short basic rules. The premise is
that modern people somehow acquire the power items
of ancient mythic figures - Thor's hammer, Monkey's
wishing staff, the sandals of Hermes and so on -
and get entangled in conflicts with shape-twisted
"demons" from outside our world as well
as other obstacles both magical and mundane. Arsenal
is written as a framework - it can be run in lots
of different styles, from young people taking on
an atmospheric and scary world they never suspected
to higher-powered anime-style monster hunters.
You can get it from the usual outlets as a 68-page
6"x9" book, in PDF and as a hardcopy from
IPR (currently on pre-order) and Lulu.
